Where are we as a nation 5 years later since 9/11/01? The more I read today, the angrier I get with the one simple fact that I have yet to see mentioned anywhere: The Pentagon attack was an act of war. Plain and simple.
The Latin phrase for act of war is
Casus belli. This is a modern
Latin language expression meaning the justification for acts of war.
Casus means "incident" or "rupture", while
belli means "of war". (Source: Wikipedia)
Hence, the media and many leading politicians have ignored the most simple explanation for our response to the terrorists attacks on 9/11/2001, the multiple infractions by Saddam in regard to the UN resolutions and cease fire agreements, and the list goes on.
Simply put, the two examples meet the criteria for a nation to defend itself (excluding the UN resolution, whose worth is less than a piece of used toilet paper) and the rest of the world be damned.
I challenge the blogging world to venture further down this path, and provide more instances in which the media and politicians have blatantly ignored this simple fact.
Five years later, what would now define Casus belli? I shudder to think.
